Founded in 1940 by Diarmuid Russell and Henry Volkening, Russell & Volkening represents some of the most noted names in the history of American publishing including Eudora Welty, Bernard Malamud, Anne Tyler, George Plimpton, Barbara Tuchman, and South African Nobel Prize winner Nadine Gordimer. In 1972, Timothy Seldes acquired Russell & Volkening and continued the tradition of literary excellence with the additions of Annie Dillard, Tony Award winner Ntozake Shange, Jim Lehrer, and Marian Wright Edelman, among many others.
In March of 2012, after a 40 year run, Timothy Seldes is passing the Russell & Volkening torch to LMQ Literary Agency, an agency of like mind possessing the energy and vision necessary to accommodate a changing landscape for books. Russell & Volkening will join LMQ in tact, and will maintain its historic name.
Russell & Volkening is currently accepting submissions in the areas of fiction (adult, children's and young adult), memoir, narrative nonfiction, history, biography, current events and popular science. All queries should be delivered electronically, to
